Description:
A 9,000 hour program to become a Low-Rise Residential journeyperson, in the 309A sector that takes between 5 to 6 years to complete.
Program Details:
Initially, there is a 900 hour Pre-Apprenticeship Program that must be completed to become a Registered Apprentice in the 309A Low-Rise Residential sector.
- Apprentices work for a member company of the Greater Toronto Electrical Contractors Association (Greater Toronto ECA).
- Apprentices are dispatched by the IBEW Local Union 353 within a designated geographical area from Lake Ontario north to Party Sound, and from Trenton in the east to Oakville in the west. Apprentices are required to provide their own transportation to the jobsite. Most work days begin at 7 a.m.
- Apprentices are assigned an advisor who will guide them through their apprenticeship.

Timelines:
Low Rise Residential apprentices are sponsored by the contractor and are contacted for the Safety and Orientation (S&O) once approved. Once the two (2) week Safety and Orientation is successfully completed, an apprentice will then be dispatched to their sponsoring company and the Pre-Apprenticeship begins.
Low-Rise Residential Application Process:
Step 1
Receive sponsorship offer from a low-rise contractor that is a member of the Greater Toronto ECA.
Step 2
Compile and forward the necessary educational documents required to the Alliance:
- - Official sponsorship letter from contractor.
- - Official Secondary School Transcript.
- - Typed Resume with Cover Letter.
Step 3
Successful applicants will be contacted to attend mandatory safety courses:
- - Safety & Orientation (2 weeks).
- - Workplace Hazardous Material.
- - Working at Heights.
Step 4
Upon successful completion of all courses, the candidate will begin the probationary pre-apprenticeship program (900 hours).
Please note that you cannot work before completing compulsory orientation.
